Afternoon Sail Camp (Ages 11* to 16)
Times: Monday-Thursday 1 pm-4 pm on specific dates.
Program Cost: $176 Members/$220 Non-Members.
Sailboats used: Sunfish and 420
*Prior approval needed for registrants under age 11*
In this class, youth sailors learn the skills to sail a sunfish single handed or a 420, a
two-person boat, with another sailor or improve their skills on an Opti. While
reinforcing all the student's previous sailing skills, these sailors will focus on on-water
instruction, steering the boat, proper sail trim, define their upwind and downwind
sailing techniques and basic right-of-way rules. Most students upon completion of
multiple sessions of this course will be introduced to racing. Our sailors can
take this class multiple times and will be divided based on skill levels while working
with the instructors to improve their sailing abilities.
All students will always wear life jackets. Instructors, either in the student's boat or on
a safety boat, accompany the students. All instructors are experienced sailors. All
have learned to sail in the DLYC Sailing School.
The DLYC is offering a limited number of scholarships for youths who need financial
